This morning, after arguing with Ethan over whether or not he can get up at 5:45 and crawl into bed with us...again...I gave him a run-down of our weekend, which includes a trip to the Higgins Armory in Worcester. Ethan thought about it, and wasn't overly convinced he wanted to go. So I asked him if he wanted to get a treat afterwords, and OOH! we could go out for ice cream.
"No, I don't want ice cream. It's too cold for me," says Ethan.
"Okay, what kind of treat do you want?" I ask.
Ethan thinks. "I want an up-and-down treat. Something that goes up and down," he describes, guesturing like he wants a long stick.
"Do you want to go get cookies?" I tried.
"No," he says in his condescening 4 year old voice. "Cookies are circles. I want something up and down."
We go back and forth on this until it's time to get his boots on. By this point in time Jeremy's trying to figure it out with me. Ethan tries again, "I want something red. Red, and goes up and down."
Jeremy won this one. "Do you want Twizzlers, Ethan?" he asks.
"Yes! That's what I want!"
If only he could figure out the waking up thing, we'd be GOLDEN.
Today at nap time, I decided to amuse Ethan by making up a story about him and his cousin, Baby Declan. Now, this is Ethan's favorite kind of story. EVER.
There are some variations, but Ethan's favorite parts have to do with Baby Declan being trapped on a mountain, Ethan climbing the mountain (with a ladder) to rescue him, and fighting bad guys with a lightsaber. He also likes it when airplanes are involved, especially anthropomorphic ones that will take to him. Of course, Ethan always wins, and they get to go for a picnic at the end.
I thought I'd share this all with you, especially as I know my sister reads this, and she should know what the heck Ethan's talking about, as he will go up to everyone and tell them how he rescued Baby Declan from a mountain.
And here's Mr. Bunny all finished. Yay!!
This year it is a tie. Though one gift was actually for me...the other for my son.
For me, I received a hawt black Nintendo DS Lite. It's cute and evil. I immediately got addicted to Brain Age, with your special host Kim Jong Il. I have managed to save my pathetically old brain with constant Su Doku action. (And the fact that my quiz today did not consist of either the Name the Color game or the Memorize Words, Which You Suck At Jenn game.) Today I was highly amused to find that the main screen Kim Jong Il will react to your voice, due to the microphone in the game thingie.
Very cute.
Oh, and tonight, to give Su Doku a break, I picked up the Mario Kart. Which is, as I think I've mentioned elsewhere, one of my favorite stress relieving games. And highly entertaining for Jeremy, as he finds the swears I invent quite amusing. Which is why Mommy can't race when Ethan's around, and also why I can't take Mario Kart to work to play during lunch. Which is what I've been doing all week with Brain Age. Hey, I have an hour lunch, and it's been a bad week for the cafeteria.
The other Best Christmas Present Evah was actually for my son. With days to spare (okay, a week and a half or so), I snagged a TMX Elmo off eBay for just about retail. Score! Especially as Amazon still isn't selling them. As I've read from other parents, this Elmo apparently concerns little children with its seizure fits of laughter. Which makes me much less concerned about own son's habit of holding Elmo as tightly as possible as he starts laughing, in order to keep him from swallowing his tongue.
Personally, I find the thing ABSOLUTELY hilarious. I was talking to my Dadoo on Christmas Day when Ethan finally decided he wanted Elmo out of the box. Thank goodness Fisher Price (or whoever) shipped the thing with batteries, as we are out. Ethan tickled him, and I couldn't talk anymore...I was laughing too hard. On the down side, Elmo is also very loud, so Dadoo heard him over the phone and started laughing on his end as well. It was quite the worthwhile conversation.
The last thing I love about Elmo is that the designers obviously have a secret camera somewhere in this house. They captured my son perfectly. Ethan inherited my extreme ticklishness, and, I swear, when you tickle that child, he goes into the same seizure-like convulsions. And, just like Elmo, screams, "AGAIN!!"
Fun and excitement and all sorts of other things abounded. As the sun came out in the late morning, we stopped for hats, as that's what I get when I go to Walt Disney World. Same difference, right? Anywho, I wanted to get Ethan some mouse ears, so he picked out the pirate ones. Because he loves pirates. AAAARRRGH!!!! As we walked over to the rockets, Ethan saw something he loves more than pirates: DUCKS! Because, really, what's better than wicked friendly ducks that will eat pretzel Goldfish out of your hand?
And, lastly in my mini-post, we have Buzz Lightyear and Ethan. Aside from seeing MICKEY!!!, we took the trip to Disneyland to see Buzz LIghtyear. Ethan was so excited to go on a Buzz Lightyear ride (which was actually pretty cool), then to visit the Buzz LIghtyear Shoppe. (Okay, not called "shoppe", but it seemed appropriate.) There, he picked up a spinning, light up Buzz Lightyear. Which proceeded to amuse him the rest of the day. Even to the point that when we found the real Buzz Lightyear on the way to lunch, Ethan shared his toy with him, then couldn't decide whether or not to interact with Toy Buzz or Real Buzz. (My favorite thing about this picture: Even Buzz Lightyear is telling Ethan to look at the camera. Priceless!)
More to come after pictures get taken off the camera. Which will probably be after the wedding (not mine, my sister's). And after my parents leave. Which means sometime around Thanksgiving.
Told you I was keeping busy!
So we're watching some Seinfeld...which will probably soon turn into a dangerous thing with the Ethan...and Ethan's sitting on my lap, eating the bottom half of grapes and giving me the top. (He decided yesterday that the top, where the grape meets the stem, is the grape's "belly button", and thus, is "icky." Perfectly fine for Mama, though.) A commercial for IKEA comes on. Because the closest one is only 4 hours away. Anywho, conversation ensues...
Me: I think they should build an IKEA here. Right, Ethan?
Ethan: No.
M: *gasp* Don't you like IKEA?
E: No.
M: Have you ever been to an IKEA?
E: No.
M: Yes you did. You went with Mommy, remember? Wasn't it cool?
E: No, it's not cool.
M: *gasp* Are you my son?!
E: No, I'm not your son.
Now that he's feeling better, that kid is back to cracking me up. This weekend, the excitement is buying him a suit and shoes for my sister's semi-formal wedding (though I'm really tempted to get him another pair of Chuck Taylors for his suit...), as well as any other items we may need for our trips. Next weekend is Disneyland, and the weekend after that is the wedding!
